What is racism? Racism, according to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, is to feel that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. And, sadly, this is happening with Leah.
This is a difficult topic to be discussed, and is because so many people disagree with the cast of the show. However, we're not here to talk about whether Leah deserves the role or not, we're here to talk about all the problems she has to go through as a 12-year-old just because she'll act as Annabeth Chase.
She has to bear racism, but, as she said on her latest instagram live, she is not affected by it. She will ignore the bad comments (Go, Leah!). The main problem, is that most of the people that are attacking her are adults. It's something that cannot be ignored, it's just wrong. Racism itself is wrong and it shouldn't be tolerated.
I've also seen POC people being afraid of having black representation bearing with 'white-girl-problems'. It's understandable, we don't know how they're going to manage it. They have a point, Rick has misrepresented non-white-people before. We can just hope that this will not happen again and that he learned from his past mistakes.
The last problem I've noticed is that people reported her TikTok account. They disagreed with her acting as Annabeth, so some people reported her account, which is kind of dumb. That did nothing more than cause Leah trouble. You have a right not to like the cast, of what you have no right is to take it out on the actors.
So, remember: if you're not happy with the cast, not take it out on Leah or any of the kids. They're human beings with feelings.
